If you double click the image object you will notice that the ribbon at the top of your word document changes to an Excel ribbon and the workbook opens in the framed object. Resize the image to suit your needs from the border, your Excel file will open in this frame so allow enough room. It is an image link to the file that is now a hidden part of the Word file.
